Jennifer Kirkland and Bert Carlson

Based in the Shenandoah Valley, the Jennifer Kirkland/Bert Carlson combo can provide a variety of musical styles and a repertoire ranging from jazz standards to pop, rock, blues, Motown, and other American popular music.  Kirkland and Carlson can provide their vocals/guitar duo for a small wedding, dinner party, cocktail reception, or corporate event entertainment.  The duo works with a number of talented musicians throughout Virginia to provide larger ensembles when appropriate - -trios with bass or mandolin, for example, or a standard quartet with bass and drums for a larger party or dance.  The group can bring in horns for a complete dance band.  A Kirkland/Carlson combo can do it all - - from Benny Goodman to the Blues to the Beatles and more.  They’ve got a wealth of club, festival and concert experience and a repertoire to please a wide audience.
The full Kirkland/Carlson tune list has over 1000 songs, but here are just a FEW examples of the variety of tunes they play:

Jacob Yarrow - - VIRGINIA BLUES AND JAZZ FESTIVAL
Their performance is always excellent, whether they are performing as a duo or with a larger band. They can play in a wide variety of styles and tailor their performance to the situation. . . Their musical abilities are allowed to shine because they are so skilled at creating a connection with the audience . . . In addition to their remarkable artistic flexibility, they offer the sort of practical flexibility that helps to serve a wide variety of presenters. The duo can perform in most any situation or space and they can supplement the group with bass, drums or a horn player when the concert calls for that.

Mary Harvey - - FINE ARTS IN ROCKBRIDGE
To hear the Kirkland/Carlson combo is to hear a little bit of everything. Not just traditional jazz tunes, though they do those wonderfully - - but so much more - - blues, jazz arrangements of pop/folk/rock tunes - -even jazz arrangements of bluegrass - - a wonderful mix to appeal to a diverse audience . . . I love sitting in a performance of theirs and watching people listening to a jazz standard one minute and then saying, “Is that the Beatles?” and singing along within seconds – and smiling. When that happens, I know Jennifer and Bert are smiling, too - - they’ve hooked another one!
