Destiny Jazz Band 

Destiny Jazz Band has been one of Washington DC's premier bands for the last ten years, opening for National Artists such as Spyro Gyra, Miles J., Paul Taylor, Wayman Tisdale and more.They have performed at a wide range of venues that include events for Smooth Jazz 105.5 FM, nightclubs, wedding receptions, civic organizations, and wine festivals along the east coast.

Destiny Jazz Band Is:

Michael Girdy on saxophones:
Mike is a native of Virginia Beach, VA. He studied music at Hampton University. He is known as “Dirty Girdy”, and is one of the staples of Destiny. Mikes learned to play the sax at age 15. He plays alto, soprano, tenor saxophones. He has won numerous musical awards while attending Hampton University. He has shared the stage with many great names in the world of gospel and jazz music throughout his career. Mike has a great tonal quality and a unique soulful feel that’s unique to the Destiny sound.

Byron Martin on keyboards:
“Nick” as he prefers to be called, has been a member on and off with Destiny since 1996. He resides in Hyattsville, Maryland. His
distinct instrumental sound has added life and creativity to Destiny’s sound. He has played since the age of 11 and studied music at Bowie State University in Towson, Maryland. Nick’s wide range of study and a great ear for all forms of music has made him one of the focal points of this band. He has played with many national acts as the premier performer, sideman and soloist. His vigor for music makes him the musician whose sound is something to hear.

Charles Adkins on electric bass:
Charles “Reds” as he prefers to be called is the latest member of Destiny. He is a native of Washington, DC. He started playing bass at the age of 5. Reds is the flavor and the movement to the sound of the band. He has shared the stage with many national and local acts too numerous to mention. His array of music styles range from Classical to R&B, Blues to Rock & Roll, Top 40 and of course Jazz. Reds, supplies a great bass feel to the structure of the music that only a true professional can.

Jerry McClam on drums:
Jerry is a native of Buffalo, New York. He is the originator and business manager of Destiny. Jerry started playing drums at the age of 12. He played with many local groups in and around the Buffalo area. He studied music at State University of New York at Buffalo under the direction of Jan Williams. After his studies, he ventured out performing with numerous national acts. His style of music ranges from Big Band, to R&B, to Top 40, and of course, Jazz. Jerry is the heartbeat of the band (the timekeeper), his drumming is the heartbeat, tempo, and soul to the Destiny sound.

Tennyson Price-Vocals:
Tennyson “Mr. Entertainer” is the personality and vocalist of Destiny. His experience and expertise ranges over a 20 year span. He has performed and toured with many of the legendary Motown groups of the eighties and nineties. Tennyson’s superior professionalism, and showmanship made him 2005 Washington, DC’s “Entertainer of the year”. He is known in entertainment circles for “turning a party out”.
